The City of Richmond Department of Public Works is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Associate Accountant to provide a variety of accounting support tasks. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining records, preparing spreadsheets, reconciling transactions to the general ledger, reimbursement billings, customer service, performing journal entry preparation and processing, and assisting with projects related to CAFR preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly reimbursable billings for CIP-related projects.
- Prepare monthly general ledger and accounts payable reports for CIP Projects to track expenditures.
- Resolve billing and payment issues related to Capital Improvement Projects.
- Communicate with department’s project managers on project phases and authorized funding.
- Prepare journal entries or re-class invoices.
- Prepare deposit forms.
- Prepare quarterly spreadsheet of outstanding receivables for VDOT and the City of Richmond Finance Department.
- Assist with reconciliations related to fixed assets and the CWIP Schedule.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Accounting principles and practices, accrual accounting, data entry, revenue collection of banking systems, creating spreadsheets, reconciling, communicating with various internal and external departments, conducting research, summarizing and presenting findings, knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, oral and written communication, analysis, following standard procedures, and establishing practices.
- Minimum Training and Experience: Associate's degree in accounting, business, or a related field; Two (2) years of accounting support experience; An equivalent combination of training and experience may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the class.
- Preferred Training and Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a related field is preferred.
