Description
Duties include but are not limited to
- Serving as liaison to the City Attorney by tracking civil investigations and claims;
- Creating system and tracking memos of understanding (MOUs) and requests for legal opinions;
- Creating and maintaining filing index system;
- Tracking FOIA (Freedom of Information Act ) requests;
- Processing SDTs (Subpoena Duces Tecum) and other incoming court documents;
- Coordinating police officer court responses in civil matters;
- Drafting and distributing correspondence;
- Answering telephone and taking messages for Office of General Counsel staff;
- Maintaining schedules/calendars of General Counsel staff;
- Maintaining staff leave records, and audits/inspections of department divisions;
- Preparing and submitting division purchase orders;
- Processing invoices/payments;
- Entering report information and maintaining various databases; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three years of related clerical or office support experience.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
The preferred candidate will have an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Paralegal Studies or related field (or the equivalent in experience and knowledge, as approved by the department) and three or more years of paralegal, legal assistant or relative experience pertaining to legal support in an office.
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A Notary Public designation may be required for some assignments.
