Richmond Montessori School (RMS) located in Richmond, Virginia, seeks a highly organized and detail oriented Advancement Associate to join our growing Montessori community of 320 students ages 18 months-14 years old. The school is situated on eleven acres across two adjacent campuses and includes several buildings containing approximately 41,000 square feet. For more than half a century, RMS has provided an authentic Montessori education in a child-centered environment while remaining true to its mission of inspiring academic excellence and nurturing human potential.


The Advancement Associate provides direct and logistical support for all stages of the donor cycle, fundraising events, and strategic advancement efforts. This position coordinates all development database activities and optimizes the operations for advancement.


Essential job functions include:

  • Administrative support for the Director of Advancement
  • Organizing, reporting, and analysis connected to annual fundraising and capital campaigns
  • Managing daily office procedures for gift and pledge accounting, acknowledgements, and data management
  • Accurate reconciliation of records with finance department
  • Supporting board committees through compiling materials, tracking attendance, creating minutes, and facilitating follow up tasks
  • Assists in planning, preparation, and management of fundraising, donor recognition, and community based events

    Required Qualifications
    • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires previous experience with CRMs and reporting practices. 
    • Efficient, accurate usage of database systems, structures, and best practices. 
    • Experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Excel. 
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills that create a foundation for relationships with donors and volunteers. 
    • Curiosity that drives research, analysis, and strategic planning. 
    • Customer service skills must be exemplary. 
    • Requires sound judgment, discretion and a high level of confidentiality. 
    • Requires the capacity to work independently and as part of a team. 
    • Ability to successfully prioritize and manage multiple tasks. 
    • Excited about serving the RMS community. 
    Education. Training and/or Experience: 
    • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred. Fluency with donor database work. 
    • Experience with Canva is a plus. 
    Certifications, Licenses. or Registrations: CPR & First aid certifications Physical Factors: Typically in an office setting, ability to lift 35 pounds is required.
