SUMMARY:
This position focuses on arranging the placement of minors in foster care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide case management to minors in the foster care program.
- Prepare and maintain complete and accurate case files, records, and reports for court, Department of Social Services, Department of Health and Human Services, and other relevant agencies.
- Coordinate with school personnel to provide individualized services to minors.
- Supervise placements by visiting with minors and foster care families to monitor progress and provide appropriate intervention when indicated.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized service plans for each minor.
- Assist in the orientation, training, certification, and supervision of foster families and minors.
- Provide crisis intervention services and on-call emergency beeper coverage.
- Participate in staff trainings and may facilitate training to staff and foster parents, as assigned.
- Participate in the development of permanency planning, including aftercare as appropriate.
- Provide ongoing training, guidance, and assessment of foster families.
- Conduct Independent Living skills training and assessment.
- May be assigned cases specific to family reunification cases for the Safe Passages Grant Program.
- Assist in developing community partnerships and resources.
- Complete reports and updates to stakeholders/referral agencies and serve as a liaison for community partner agencies.
- Participate in the development and update of procedures and forms.
- Provide crisis on-call support and coverage.
- Track policy and procedural changes from agency partners and educate staff.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all foster families in the program to assist in child placement.
- Represent the Agency in the community and workplace in a professional and ethical manner.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal, decision-making, problem-solving, oral, and written skills.
- Utilize basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Qualifications:
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Doctorate or master's degree in social work or a related field accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, or a bachelor's degree in social work or a related field with one year of relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree in any field with two years of experience in providing casework services to children and families.
- A case worker trainee would have a baccalaureate degree in any field, be directly supervised by the program director or a child-placing supervisor, and follow a written training program.
