This position involves supervising children in shelter care. Candidates must be available to work mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervising and overseeing the physical care of children in shelter.
  • Assisting children in coping with separation from family using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Guiding children in managing their behavior positively through appropriate interventions.
  • Providing social, cultural, and recreational activities for children.
  • Assisting in meeting goals on each child’s service plan.
  • Maintaining accurate daily logs as per licensing and agency requirements.
  • Offering crisis intervention services and on-call coverage as assigned.
  • Participating in mandatory trainings (e.g., CPR/First Aid, Medication Management, Behavioral Intervention).
  • Aiding in meal preparation and maintaining shelter cleanliness and safety.
  • Developing and implementing daily activity schedules for sheltered children.
  • Transporting children to community activities and appointments.
  • Representing the Agency professionally in the community and workplace.
  • Demonstrating sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Exhibiting strong interpersonal, decision-making, problem-solving, oral, and written skills.
  • Utilizing basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assigned to Youth Specialist: Case Aid:

    • Providing case management administrative support in a timely manner.
    • Complying with unannounced supervisor observations during shifts.
    • Actively participating in weekly staffing meetings for ongoing caseload discussions.
    • Assisting in admission and discharge tasks.
  • Assigned to Lead Youth Specialist:

    • Managing children’s allowances.
    • Ensuring proper documentation and stock in logs.
    • Conducting monthly medication reviews and maintaining first aid kits.
    • Overseeing vehicle inspections and keeping vehicles stocked with emergency supplies.

Qualifications:

  • Education and/or Experience:
    • Baccalaureate degree in human services OR associate’s degree with six months of child-related experience OR High School Diploma/GED with one year of child-related experience.
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
    • Valid driver's license.
