The Department of Human Services is seeking two (2) dynamic, team-oriented, enthusiastic, and hardworking individuals to join its team as Community Resource Navigators. Incumbents must be self-starters, exceptional communicators and listeners, problem solvers, and most importantly, team players.


As key components of the new Human Services Community Resource and Training Center, Community Resource Navigators will support Richmond residents experiencing hardship and housing insecurity by connecting them to services, resources, and case management that can assist them in moving from crisis to thriving.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Interview and assess clients to obtain basic data, past medical history, and determine income status/program eligibility.
  • Provide light-touch case management and navigation to identify possible solutions to complex case scenarios.
  • Empower and aid clients navigating obstacles like emotional, logistical, cultural, or socio-economic barriers.
  • Partner with clients to set and monitor individualized success plans, including setting short and long-term goals, identifying and overcoming barriers, and assessing readiness.
  • Follow up with clients at defined intervals to assess progress, build familiarity, provide continuity, capture outcomes, and offer alternative options.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with clients and assist families/individuals in identifying community resources within the health and human services network.
  • Collaborate with community agencies, members, and organizations to become familiar with the services they offer.
  • Research and identify current and available community resources and assist in the development and maintenance of a community resource library.
  • Accurately document, log, and report data and information, ensuring confidentiality in accordance with program policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Resource Center team discussions, special projects, community meetings, and other assigned duties, including administrative support.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Training and Experience:

    • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent; AND
    • Two (2) years of work experience in healthcare, community health, customer service, social services, or a related field; OR
    • Two (2) years of college-level training in relevant occupations may substitute for one (1) year of work experience.
    • High School Diploma, or higher, and 1 year of experience serving vulnerable and marginalized individuals preferred.
    • The ideal candidate would have lived experience with or a close understanding of economic vulnerability and housing insecurity.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Excellent computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Google Docs, and Google Sheets.
    • Ability to maintain accurate and complete records.
    • Knowledge of available community resources and systems of care.
    • Ability to stay organized, handle multiple tasks, and adhere to deadlines.
    • Ability to work as part of a team and maintain flexibility around task assignments.
    • Ability to establish, recognize, and adhere to appropriate professional boundaries.
    • Adaptability and flexibility in an ever-changing environment.
    • Ability to learn new things quickly and maintain a professional, respectful disposition.
    • Highly effective team player with strong active listening and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to provide instructions and communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
    • Ability to consider the role of cultural, social, and behavioral factors in the accessibility and delivery of community services.
