The Richmond City Council is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the role of Council Liaison, dedicated to supporting the 9th District City Council member. The incumbent will play a pivotal role in supporting the elected Council member, fostering communication among various stakeholders, including Council members, City agency staff, constituents, and the public.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing comprehensive support to the elected Council member.
  • Facilitating communication among different offices and stakeholders.
  • Handling public and media relations tasks, program development, and statistical analyses.
  • Researching, developing, and tracking legislation.
  • Representing the Council member at meetings and civic/community events.
  • Supervising interns and volunteers.
  • Creating district newsletters, communications, and maintaining databases.
  • Conducting research for reports and proposals.

Key Duties:

  • Serving as a liaison between the Council member and officials/citizens.
  • Facilitating communication for program/project development and execution.
  • Assisting the Council member in various official duties.
  • Maintaining records of Council member projects and priorities.
  • Researching legislation and other developments.
  • Making presentations on behalf of City Council and the district.
  • Planning special events and district communications.

Qualifications:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business management, public administration, or a related field.
  • Two years of public service experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Public Administration (MPA) or Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
  • Prior experience within local, state, or federal government.
  • Experience representing an elected official at community and business meetings.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in various systems and applications for daily tasks.
