Summary: This position provides individual, marital, family, and group counseling services to adults and children to help them achieve effective personal, marital, and family development.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interviews clients to assess their situation and develops appropriate treatment plans.
  • Conducts individual, couples, family, and group counseling sessions.
  • Prepares and maintains case files, reports, both written and through the electronic health record system, to ensure proper client care and compliance with state licensing, certification, and insurance standards.
  • Refers clients to community organizations (clinics, shelters, etc.) as appropriate.
  • Stays current in licensure and clinical training through completion and documentation of annual training hours; completes a minimum of 15 hours per year including 12 hours per year of training specific to the Batterer’s Intervention Program; meets regularly with the clinical supervisor for supervision.
  • Ensures program quality and compliance with Council of Accreditation standards and Batterers Intervention Program standards.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with referral sources and responds to inquiries in a timely manner, providing records and progress reports on clients, as required.
  • Participates in marketing through presentations, workshops, and networking.
  • Occasional day travel may be required to perform these functions.
  • Assists in the review of client charts and records.
  • Administers client surveys, questionnaires, and testing, as appropriate.
  • Collects money, records payments, and works cooperatively with accounting, as needed.
  • Monitors and completes pre-authorizations for insurance companies in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Attends program and agency meetings and follows policies and procedures.
  • Follows guidelines of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) in the handling of and releasing of client’s personal information and medical records.
  • Assists the clinical supervisor in training and guidance of counseling interns.
  • Maintains a cooperative and flexible attitude.
  • Testifies in court cases when subpoenaed.
  • Occasional day travel may be required to facilitate groups off-site and perform school counseling services.
  • Represents the Agency in the community and workplace in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, decision-making, problem-solving, oral, and written skills.
  • Utilizes a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Qualifications: Education and/or Experience:

  • Master’s Degree required with two years of related experience.
  • Experience facilitating domestic violence groups is preferred, but not required.
