The Eureka Camp Counselor program is created under the direction of CodeVA’s Eureka Workshops and a Career and Technical Education (CTE) grant project led by Virginia Tribal Education Consortium (VTEC), the non-profit Tribal Education Agency (TEA) formed by and representing all seven federally recognized tribes in Virginia. This CTE project is designed to prepare Native American teen counselors to meet academic and technical standards for high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand industries and occupations. All Eureka Workshops courses, including those that the teen counselor will support, are arts-integrated and incorporate playful learning and creative problem solving to break down any preconceptions about coding or programming while fostering creative thinking.
The selected Curriculum Developer will design the Eureka Camp
Counselor program, a summer camp counselor program for Native teens. The
curriculum developer will use a Eureka Workshops-approach to create an
experience for teen participants that is designed to give youth an
opportunity to develop skills related to computer science educational
careers. Camp Counselors are responsible for assisting Eureka
Instructors in daily administration of Eureka Classes, including:
ensuring the well-being and safety of all participants, administering
games and activities, maintaining a fun and safe environment, keeping
the room clean and assisting with signing participants in and out each
day.
