The Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation is a state-based 501(c)(3) organization with headquarters in Richmond and an office in Roanoke. We are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer in Virginia.


Position Overview:
VBCF is seeking a full-time Development & Outreach Manager who will play a pivotal role in planning and executing mission-focused fundraising activities. The primary goal is to diversify and increase revenue while supporting the organization's external communications strategy, aiming to expand our client base and engage more donors. This role focuses on the region east of Interstate 81 and Route 29 and reports directly to the Executive Director.


Responsibilities:

Fund Development (75%):

  • Plan the annual fundraising calendar.
  • Research and implement best practices for donor development, cultivation, acquisition, acknowledgment, recognition, and retention.
  • Coordinate the gift solicitation efforts of the Board of Directors.
  • Present VBCF’s mission and services to interested groups.
  • Develop and execute Annual Fund strategies and campaigns.
  • Manage CRM software for donor and donation tracking, including data entry, acknowledgment processing, reconciliation, reporting, and analysis to ensure fundraising goals are met.
  • Oversee the development, planning, and execution of signature fundraising event/s with focus areas in Central and Eastern Virginia.
  • Manage and retain existing community fundraisers and identify and recruit new ones.

Outreach (25%):

  • Curate and produce compelling, mission-focused content for VBCF’s social media channels to increase visibility and presence across relevant platforms.
  • Curate and produce compelling, mission-focused content, overseeing the creation and refinement of blog posts, monthly email newsletters, biennial print newsletters, and annual reports, providing polished copy for layout and publication.
  • Develop and maintain media relationships; draft press releases and articles for publication.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 3+ years of experience in nonprofit fund development, including special event management.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute successful outreach campaigns.
  • Proficiency in the use of social media platforms.
  • Self-motivated and able to handle multiple projects.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Experience with DonorPerfect, QGiv, Adobe, WordPress, and/or Hootsuite is a plus.
  • Travel across Virginia is required, with limited overnights.
  • Evening and weekend work is anticipated with advance notice.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required, as well as a background and credit check prior to hiring.
