The City of Richmond Department of Public Works is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill the position of Electrician in the Facilities Management Division. The incumbent is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical equipment in City facilities.
Duties include but are not limited to
- Driving, stocking, and operating service and bucket trucks
- Using safety equipment and follows established safety procedures for working with high and low voltage
- Designing electrical systems for power and lighting Installing new lighting and power systems, including temporary electrical systems for special events
- Maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting emergency generators, motors, HVAC, and lighting equipment
- Managing contracts for the service and repair of 50 City generators
- Locating and pricing materials needed for job
- Locating and replacing fuses and circuit breakers as necessary
- Reading prints, schematics, and code books and calculating wattage, amperage, and ohms for purpose of making repairs
- Coordinating job shutdowns with contractors for purpose of major repairs
- Completing standard work orders and reports
- Performing other related duties as required
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70).
- Knowledge of Electrical theory including Kerchef's law, Ohm's law, etc. Knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment/systems.
- Extensive knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures.
- In-depth knowledge of the CMMS system or similar system used to log work tasks, order parts and materials, etc.
- Skill in mathematics, including geometric and algebraic formulas.
- Knowledge of color code of ladders.
- Skill in using applicable safety standards and protocols, including PPE, NEC, and NFLPA.
- Ability to properly use standard hand and electrical tools.
- Skill in using database management systems.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
- Ability in troubleshooting electrical systems and their components to ensure safe and proper operations.
- Ability to safely operating power and hand tools.
- Skill in reading and listening comprehension.
- Skill in effective oral and written communication.
- Skill in performing mathematical calculations, including algebraic and geometric operations used in the electrical field.
- High school diploma or GED or specialized vocational training
- Four (4) years of electrician experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.
- Microsoft Office Suite experience is preferred.
- A current and valid driver's license is required to perform the duties of this position.
- Current and valid Journeyman Electrician certification required Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license within 30 days of hire.
- Some assignments may require a valid Commonwealth of Virginia commercial driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
