The City of Richmond is seeking a versatile and detail-oriented Electronics Specialist to support the Office of Strategic Communications. This hybrid role combines hands-on media support with crucial administrative and automation coordination functions. The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual with a strong organizational skillset, a basic understanding of media production workflows, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment. This position will directly support the Senior Public Information Manager and contribute significantly to the smooth operation of the department.

 

Duties include but are not limited to

 

  • Provide Essential Grip & Basic Production Support: Serve as a key member of production teams, providing professional grip support for camera and lighting setups. This includes equipment handling, rigging, and ensuring safe and efficient on-set operations. Additionally, operate cameras, lighting instruments, sound recording devices, and other production equipment under the guidance of senior production staff.
  • Project ManagementCoordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects.  Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors. Creating and maintaining comprehensive project documentation. Ensure that all audiovisual equipment and systems are installed correctly and function properly. Plan and oversee the installation and maintenance of audiovisual equipment.
  • Comprehensive Event Coordination & Logistics: Lead the planning, setup, and coordination of various departmental events, including press conferences, community meetings, workshops, and special broadcasts. This includes venue preparation, equipment setup and breakdown, providing physical resources (microphones, PA systems, lighting, podiums, projectors, easels) and coordinating with external contractors.
  • Departmental Administration & Support: Provide crucial administrative support to the Senior Public Information Manager and the department. This includes overseeing the vehicle checkout system and coordinating parking arrangements for clients and visitors.
  • Technical & Operational Liaison: Serve as a point of contact for basic technical inquiries and facilitate communication with the city's Information Technology (DIT) department by submitting and tracking support tickets for all departmental staff, ensuring timely resolution of technical issues and maintaining operational efficiency.

 

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of audio/visual equipment, media production workflows, and basic electronics.

  • Familiarity with digital communications platforms and office support procedures.

  • Understanding of automation tools and scheduling systems.

 

Skills:

  • Skilled in setting up, operating, and maintaining A/V and electronic equipment.

  • Proficient in administrative coordination, scheduling, and records management.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Competent in Microsoft Office Suite; working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud preferred.

Abilities:

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and tools.

  • Commitment to accuracy, professionalism, and public service.



MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Completion of one year of college or specialized vocational training
  • Two years of related experience
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
