The Human Resources Department at the City of Richmond is dedicated to supporting its missions by fostering a skilled and diverse workforce. The HR Employee Relations Investigator role plays a pivotal part in managing workplace concerns, investigations, and employee relations issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Document and manage employee relations or workplace concerns in a case management system
- Provide strategic support and coaching to ensure effective management of employee performance
- Identify and address trends in performance issues through data analysis and reporting
- Interpret and apply relevant policies, employment laws, and regulations
- Ensure compliance with disability laws (ADA), FMLA, Title VII, and other related laws
- Manage FMLA leave administration process and provide guidance on leave laws
- Conduct training for compliance, development, and policy implementation
- Conduct ongoing stay interviews and provide monthly reporting on trends
- Mitigate legal risks through continuous assessment and ensure compliance with regulations
- Collaborate with the Legal department as required
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong knowledge of investigating and resolving workplace concerns with a focus on reducing bias
- Extensive experience in ensuring compliance with ADA, FMLA, and other relevant laws
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential HR information with high integrity
- Proficiency in fact-finding and using a case management system
- Flexibility and ability to manage conflicting priorities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and virtual team platforms
- Understanding of City of Richmond community awareness and values
Qualifications and Certifications Required:
- 3+ years of progressive experience in HR, Behavioral or Social Science, or Organizational Psychology
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration (equivalency not accepted)
- HRCI HR Certification (PHR/SPHR) or SHRM HR Certification (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressive experience in HR, Behavioral or Social Science, or Organizational Psychology
