Description
The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Engineer, Senior position in the Gas and Light Division. The Natural Gas Engineer, Senior will be responsible for technical services related to pipeline engineering, compliance operation, and construction activities for Richmond Gas Works (RGW) of natural gas facilities, and will encompass various aspects of natural gas, engineering, compliance, operation, and maintenance requirements.
Duties include but are not limited to
- Managing the engineering design process, including reviewing and analyzing detailed plan designs/technical studies and processing applications/permits, change orders, and other documentation for proposed development or improvement projects.
- Performing engineering activities relative to the design, operation and maintenance of company pipeline and related natural gas facilities.
- Conducts engineering investigations/studies. Perform inspections to ensure compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, and other regulations.
- Developing, reviewing, and updating plans, manuals, forms, compliance records, and documentation.
- Evaluates detailed plans, specifications, and standards for projects; identifies potential conflicts with plans and makes necessary field adjustments upon investigation or inspection.
- Maintains logs/records and permits; tracks systems and specialized databases and enters data. Review, prepare, and maintain project status/technical reports, permit applications, inspections, and other documents.
- Meets with project coordinators, consulting engineering documents, resolutions, and ordinances.
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Three years of engineering experience
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Some assignments may require a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

- Hydraulic Modeling

- Mathematics, including geometry, calculus, and statistics.

- Work with a variety of individuals such as other employees, vendors, contractors, and citizens

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to finger (pick, pinch, type or otherwise work primarily with fingers), talk, see, hear and use substantial repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers. The employee is occasionally required to reach extending hands and arms in any direction, stand, walk, pull, lift, and grasp applying pressure to an object with the fingers or palm. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
