The City of Richmond's Department of Public Utilities is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the role of Engineering Specialist within the Gas Distribution Division. This position provides crucial support for gas utility engineering, drafting functions, and survey/inspection permitting in gas utility construction and development projects. The incumbent will offer technical expertise and specialized support within the engineering domain.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing drafting services and maintaining city maps, drawings, and plans.
  • Processing information requests and conducting on-site visits to collect field data.
  • Performing data entry and maintaining specialized databases like GIS information.
  • Drafting detailed construction drawings, topographical profiles, and related maps and specifications.
  • Reviewing engineering drawings to ensure compliance with standard practices.
  • Collaborating with engineering teams, managing projects, and overseeing project completion within established constraints.

Qualifications:


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to coordinate designs, draft projects, and prepare detailed drawings, profiles, maps, and specifications.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing documentation for bids, work orders, and change orders.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD software for creating layouts, drawings, and designs as per engineering specifications.
  • Capability in conducting on-site visits/inspections, investigating service requests, and resolving inquiries.
  • Skilled in researching, compiling, and assembling information and maintaining specialized databases like GIS.

Minimum Training and Experience:

  • Three to four years of AutoCAD experience.
  • Three years of paraprofessional engineering experience, preferably in a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience approved by the department may meet the minimum qualifications.

Licensing and Requirements:

  • Valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License required within 30 days of hire.
  • Specialized vocational training may be required for specific assignments.
