Duties and Responsibilities

  • This position is subject to additional hours beyond the typical work week to include evenings and weekends.
  • Must have the ability to travel as required.

    Manage daily operations of a non-profit organization. Oversee all concerns and operations concerning the building and grounds of the Virginia PTA.

  • Create and promote a positive, inclusive, and equitable work environment that attracts, retains, supports, and motivates a diverse staff. The director will collaborate with staff to strengthen internal communication and collaboration throughout the organization and ensure annual performance evaluations are completed.
  • Performs fundraising activities, strengthen endeavors utilizing local, state and national resources. Collaborate with executive committee to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and execute annual development activities.
  • Support the board of directors which represents the communities served by Virginia PTA. Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship to ensure open communication about progress of organizational goals and that the budget, staff, and priorities are aligned with association’s mission.
  • Works collaboratively with the executive committee on all marketing, branding, and development strategies, ensuring a strong identity within the state, and achieving annual revenue goals.
  • Assist the Board in developing and implementing a strategic plan for the organization and monitors goal implementation quarterly through reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory and funding requirements.
  • Knowledge of event planning in order to assist with Virginia PTA events and programs.
  • May travel to other regions of Virginia to perform fundraising and outreach activities.
  • Employees at all levels are expected to effectively work together to meet the needs of the association. Employees are also expected to lead by example and demonstrate the highest level of ethics.
  • Must have knowledge of fundraising within a non-profit organization. Must be a creative thinker. 
  • Must have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. 
  • Must be able to complete management of daily operations and delegation to support staff, to include directing the organization’s mission. 
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and effectively manage an array of ongoing projects. 
  • Ability to maintain relationships with stakeholders and partner organizations. 
  • Must be organized, goal directed and efficient.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree. 
  • Knowledge of volunteer organization’s service delivery; budget management experience; leadership and management experience. 
  • Experience operating marketing, social media and/or technology platforms.
