The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is seeking friendly, confident, and reliable individuals who enjoy providing exceptional customer service to join in the Visitor Services department as Gallery Associates.

This is a part time, non-exempt position with no benefits, working 20-28 hours per week. Evening and weekend availability is required.
Duties include:
Gallery associates support the museum’s mission to collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret art by monitoring the galleries, assisting with crowd control, and informing visitors of the gallery guidelines. They provide excellent customer service to visitors by assisting them in the galleries with questions, directions, or other information and instructions. Gallery associates are responsible for communicating museum closing times and ensuring galleries are clear before closing, and reporting gallery incidents to supervisors in a timely manner. They also coordinate with security staff in the event of an emergency and notify security staff of any safety or security issues as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in a public-facing role in a customer service, hospitality, or retail setting.
- Outstanding interpersonal and oral communication skills, and the ability to work confidently and courteously with museum staff and the general public.
- Ability to work effectively in both fast-paced and slow-paced environments.
- Ability to communicate with the public in person; to use a radio for communication; to observe visitors in the galleries; and to traverse the galleries for the majority of their shift with short breaks, with reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a museum or arts organization.
- Knowledge and interest in visual art and/or history
