Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond (BGCMR) is seeking a mission-driven Grant Writer committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion to join our Advancement Team. This position will play a vital role in securing funding to support our organization's mission.
Position Purpose: Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, the BGCMR Grant Writer is responsible for managing and leading all aspects of the grant development process. This includes identifying prospective grantors, stewarding current funders, maintaining a strong grant portfolio, crafting compelling grant proposals, collaborating with key staff members, and delivering impactful grant reports. The Grant Writer shares responsibility for achieving institutional fundraising goals of $3.5M+.
Essential Functions:
The essential functions of the Grant Writer position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Research grant opportunities.
- Stay informed about community needs, relevant trends, and best practices related to BGCMR and the greater Richmond area.
- Develop and manage grant processes in collaboration with key staff (e.g., grant applications, evaluations, budgets, financial reports, interim and final reports, etc.).
- Cultivate and maintain a diverse portfolio of funding partners, including corporations and foundations.
- Identify and promote major gift opportunities.
- Collaborate with key staff across the organization to gather accurate programmatic information and coordinate metrics and measurements.
- Maintain accurate records for all grant support.
- Coordinate grant tracking and reporting with Advancement Services.
- Collaborate with the Finance Office to ensure accurate budget reporting and management.
- Facilitate visits and tours for current and prospective grantors.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

- Proven work experience as a Grant Writer or in a similar role
- Proficiency in measuring and achieving income goals
- Exceptional organizational and writing skills
- Bachelor's degree in creative writing or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and current office practices, with a willingness and ability to learn new software packages
- Working knowledge of budgeting practices, processes, and procedures is a plus
- Strong willingness to learn and grow
- Highly adaptable
