Church Hill Academy (CHA) is a fully-accredited, private, Christian high school located in the East End. CHA is part of Church Hill Activities and Tutoring (CHAT), a nonprofit organization that serves youth through education, vocational training, after-school enrichment activities, and community partnerships. The Math Teacher at CHA will provide dynamic classroom leadership, instruction, and mentorship to high school students. This role requires strong content knowledge of Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II, and Pre-Calculus, and the ability to engage students in culturally competent ways. CHA is committed to trauma-informed care, viewing students as whole individuals. Full-time Math Teachers will teach three sections of a course per semester, with a daily planning period, and will report to the School Principal.
Essential Duties:
- Competently instruct students in a variety of core high school Math courses and electives
- Prepare lesson plans that meet or exceed Virginia Standards of Learning in pacing and content
- Engage students through differentiated instruction and creative teaching methods
- Maintain a positive and caring attitude toward all students
- Collaborate with colleagues, volunteers, and parents
- Incorporate appropriate instructional technology
- Establish classroom routines aligned with best teaching practices
- Attend weekly staff meetings and various limited after-school activities
- Adhere to CHAT Employee Manual, CHA Family Handbook, and CHAT's mission and values
- Attend at least one off-site Professional Development session for Math teachers per year

Special Conditions:
- Must undergo background checks, including VA State Police Criminal Records Check and VA Department of Social Services Child Registry Search
- Must have a valid Driver's License
- Mandatory training in August
- Required to wear masks when necessary
Required Qualifications:
- Faith in Jesus Christ, affirming the Apostles' Creed and participating in a faith community
- High school diploma or equivalent and a bachelor's degree in a related field (Education or a scientific discipline) from an accredited college or university
- Teaching experience in secondary education or enrollment in a state-recognized teacher licensure program with at least one year of programmatic experience with high school students
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a command of the English language
- Intentional and practiced commitment to serving and engaging the community in the East End
Preferred Qualifications:
- VA Professional Teachers Licensure with an endorsement in high school math
