The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is offering an exciting full-time opportunity for a Horticulturist. The selected candidate will play a key role in the maintenance, care, improvement, and overall appearance of the Museum's grounds and Sculpture Garden.


Responsibilities:

  1. Installation and Maintenance of Plant Life in Museum’s Sculpture Garden and around its Campus.
  2. Support the museum’s commitment to quality customer service by applying professional talents, knowledge, and skills to the museum campus and statewide partnership network.
  3. Oversight of the grounds volunteer team and mentoring of other full-time grounds staff.
  4. Grounds Related Contract Administration.
  5. Maintenance of Irrigation Systems on Museum Campus.
  6. Maintenance of Sculpture Garden Water Fountains and Water Garden.
  7. Inclement Weather / Snow Removal.
  8. Clean up after storms.
  9. Garden maintenance after special events.
  10. Budget and Purchasing - Contribution to Small, Women, and Minority (SWaM) business goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current pesticide applicators license.
  • A minimum of 3 years in horticulture, garden management, or landscape maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in horticulture or landscape maintenance/construction.
  • Experience managing garden installation projects in a public setting.
