The City of Richmond Department of Human Resources is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Human Resources Assistant. This position supports the daily operations of the HR department. This role serves as the first point of contact at the front desk and provides administrative support in payroll processing, employment verifications, and VEC responses. The ideal candidate will also coordinate office supply needs and assist with general office tasks and special projects as assigned.

Duties include but are not limited to
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
- Greet and assist visitors, employees, and applicants at the HR front desk.
- Support biweekly payroll processing by preparing and entering necessary data.
- Respond to Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) requests and complete employment verifications in a timely manner.
- Coordinate ordering, tracking, and inventory of office supplies and equipment.
- Provide general administrative support including data entry, scheduling, filing, and correspondence.
- Sorts and distributes HR office mail.
- Assist with onboarding, employee engagement events, and other HR initiatives as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Knowledge (some combination of the following):
- English language and grammar
- Advanced Microsoft Office experience, including virtual team platforms for meetings, shared team documents, and instant messaging communications
- City of Richmond community awareness and values
- City codes, ordinances, policies and procedures
- Departmental and municipal organization and administration
- Office terminology, procedures, and equipment
- Experience with standard office equipment such as office machines, multi-line phone, computers, copier, fax, scanning machine, etc.
- Experience with software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Basic arithmetic calculations and mathematics
- Administrative and clerical procedures such as word processing, managing files and records, and designing forms.

REQUIRED QUALIFIFCATIONS:
- 3 years of related clerical or office support experience
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED is required
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum years of experience qualifications of the classification
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Direct experience working in a Human Resources environment

The working conditions may contain environmental hazards. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
