The City of Richmond Department of Social Services Division of Economic Support and Independence is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Human Services Assistant.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical, administrative, and customer service support
- Assist with paperwork management and application processing
- Determine eligibility for benefits (financial assistance, medical assistance, child care, VIEW, SNAP)
- Greet customers and assist in completing forms
- Enter customer information on applicant forms
- Screen and review applications for eligibility determination
- Enter information into agency automated systems
- Prepare case records and written recommendations
- Perform routine office tasks (answering phones, copying, scanning, etc.)
- Assist customers with Common Help online system
- Register and file clearances through State benefits systems
- Gather report facts, read and interpret complex policies and regulations
- Other related duties as assigned
Note: Employees may be required to work during inclement weather and declared emergencies.
- Considerable knowledge in Social and human services programs
- Basic math skills
- Familiarity with standard office equipment
- Skills in reading and oral comprehension
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Data entry and reporting skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Customer service orientation
- Ability to learn and use human/social services systems and software
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3 years of administrative support experience
- 1 year in a human services environment preferred
- Associate's Degree or above
- Microsoft Office experience
- Customer Service experience
- Bilingual skills
