Description
Duties include but are not limited to
- Completing routine preventative maintenance checks on HVAC and refrigeration equipment to determine if essential building/structural equipment such as boilers, chillers, water pumps, air conditioning, etc. is operating correctly and within required specifications
- Conducting scheduled inspections. Troubleshoots and makes repairs. Installs and replaces HVAC and refrigeration equipment
- Performing routine administrative duties such as: preparing and completing work orders and other paperwork; performing data entry and programming on electronic equipment; purchasing materials and parts; submitting completed work orders and quotes; and contacting vendors for parts and equipment pricing/delivery
- Assisting to troubleshoot, develop, and build test equipment, as assigned
- Performing other related duties as assigned
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED
- One year of vocational/technical training in HVAC systems/refrigeration
- Two years of HVAC experience
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Journeyman's HVAC Certification is preferred
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) certification from the Environmental Protection Agency
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license within 30 days of hire
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

- Equipment used in area of focus
- Basic electrical knowledge

- Reading and comprehending installation instructions
- Use standard HVAC equipment and tools such as voltmeters, refrigerant gauges, tape measures, and hand, power, and electrical tools

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel, see, and hear. The employee is frequently required to crawl, reach extending hands and arms in any direction, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger (pick, pinch, type or otherwise work primarily with fingers), grasp applying pressure to an object with fingers or palm, talk, feel, and use substantial repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
