The City of Richmond Department of Public Works is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of HVAC Mechanic in the Facilities Management Division.
Scheduled work hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with potential for extended hours and weekend work as required.
- Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC & Refrigeration equipment
- Conduct scheduled inspections
- Troubleshoot, repair, install, and replace HVAC & refrigeration equipment
- Respond to environmental comfort calls
- Prepare and complete work orders
- Perform administrative duties (data entry, purchasing materials, submitting quotes)
- Assist in troubleshooting and developing test equipment
Note: Employees in this role are considered essential personnel and may be required to work during declared emergencies and major weather events.
- High School Diploma or GED
- One year of vocational/technical training in HVAC systems/refrigeration
- Two years of HVAC experience
- OR an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Journeyman's HVAC Certification
- Valid chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) certification from the Environmental Protection Agency
- Valid driver's license (Commonwealth of Virginia license within 30 days of hire)
- HVAC equipment knowledge
- Basic electrical and math knowledge
- Safety procedures
- HVAC equipment inspection, repair, and installation skills
- Troubleshooting abilities
- Computer proficiency, including data entry
- Ability to read and comprehend installation instructions
- Proficiency with standard HVAC equipment and tools
- Medium work (up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently)
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel, see, and hear
- Exposure to various environmental hazards and conditions
