The City of Richmond Department of Public Works is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of HVAC Mechanic in the Facilities Management Division.

Scheduled work hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with potential for extended hours and weekend work as required.

1. Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC & Refrigeration equipment
2. Conduct scheduled inspections
3. Troubleshoot, repair, install, and replace HVAC & refrigeration equipment
4. Respond to environmental comfort calls
5. Prepare and complete work orders
6. Perform administrative duties (data entry, purchasing materials, submitting quotes)
7. Assist in troubleshooting and developing test equipment

Note: Employees in this role are considered essential personnel and may be required to work during declared emergencies and major weather events.

• High School Diploma or GED
• One year of vocational/technical training in HVAC systems/refrigeration
• Two years of HVAC experience
• OR an equivalent combination of training and experience

• Journeyman's HVAC Certification

• Valid chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) certification from the Environmental Protection Agency
• Valid driver's license (Commonwealth of Virginia license within 30 days of hire)

• HVAC equipment knowledge
• Basic electrical and math knowledge
• Safety procedures
• HVAC equipment inspection, repair, and installation skills
• Troubleshooting abilities
• Computer proficiency, including data entry
• Ability to read and comprehend installation instructions
• Proficiency with standard HVAC equipment and tools

• Medium work (up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently)
• Ability to climb, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel, see, and hear
• Exposure to various environmental hazards and conditions
