Description

 

The City of Richmond Department of Social Services’ Policy & Practice Team is seeking a highly qualified individual for the position of Intern to provide research and review of policies and procedures for compliance with state and federal requirements.

 

Duties include but are not limited to

 

  • Collaborates with the DSS Leadership in collecting and assembling a variety of information from within and outside the agency, analyzes the information to reach logical and legal conclusions, and makes recommendations regarding changes in operating policies and procedures to provide better customer service and to deliver service in a more timely and efficient way.
  • Coordinates the drafting of policies, operating procedures, and annual reports.  Research various topics as assigned and presenting final drafts for Executive level review.
  • Use Microsoft Excel to analyze data from division productivity reports. Applies data analysis to help senior management consider changes to operating policies that would make the division more efficient and provide better customer service.
  • Work with the policy team to develop agency policies that comply with state and federal requirements. 

 

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

 

INTERN ELIGIBILITY:
 
To be considered for an internship in this program, applicants must adhere to the following criteria:

  • The student must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, be in good academic standing, and be registered for courses during the internship period.  Summer Interns do not have to be enrolled in summer school but must be enrolled for the upcoming Fall semester.
  • After graduating from a degree program, the student no longer qualifies for an internship with this program unless they have been accepted into a graduate program which is scheduled to begin within twelve (12) months of hire date. 
  • Students must provide a college transcript and approval from the Academic Advisor or Career Development Counselor prior to interview date.
  • Students must be lawfully authorized to work in the United States and are required to present proof of such eligibility prior to beginning work.
  • Undergraduate students must have completed 60 credit hours and have a 3.0 overall grade point average.
  • Graduate students must be enrolled at an accredited institution and have a 3.0 overall grade point average. 
  • No special certification or license required.

**A cover letter and resume are required and must include the following information: academic major, area of professional interest, and City department(s) in which the applicant would most likely complete an internship.  If you are interested in being considered for more than one internship, a separate application package is required for each and must be submitted to the respective internship opportunity. **
