The Med Tech/Clinical Lab Scientist/Medical Lab Scientist (MT/CLS/MLS) role involves providing accurate and timely testing and results to physicians and healthcare professionals. Excellent customer service skills are essential, maintaining a positive and professional interpersonal style while emphasizing a strong commitment to teamwork.
Hiring Requirements:
- Certified as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by ASCP or equivalent.
- Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by NCA or equivalent ASCP Specialty or Categorical certification.
- New graduates must obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
- For continued employment: Certification is required.
Experience:
- Minimum: Entry Level Medical Laboratory Scientist Graduate Experience.
- Preferred: Previous experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Lab Scientist, or Medical Lab Scientist.
Education/Training:
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (BSCLS) from an accredited program.
- Bachelor's Degree in a Biological Science with NAACLS-accredited CLS/MT certificate or 5+ years on-the-job training in a hospital setting (with categorical or generalist certification).
- Grandfathered individuals exempted under previous hiring requirements.
Preferred Education/Training:
- Master’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (MSCLS) from an accredited program.
Responsibilities:
- Notify physicians of panic values.
- Customer service-oriented communications.
- Complete required continuing education hours annually.
- Teach new employees, students, etc., in demonstrated competency areas.
Additional Requirements:
- Rotation for weekends and holidays.
- On-call availability for emergency coverage on any shift.
- Serving all age-specific groups.
- Exposure to biohazards and potentially infectious body fluids.
- Physical requirements: Lifting, prolonged standing/sitting, repetitive motion.
- Mental/Sensory requirements: Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking, writing, reading, logical thinking.
