The Medical Technologist CSR provides accurate and timely technical results and information to physicians and healthcare professionals for patient diagnosis and treatment. Emphasizing excellent customer service, this role acts as a liaison between the Department of Pathology and VCUHS, adhering strictly to compliance and HIPAA regulations in communications.
Important Notes:
- Remote Role: The position is mostly remote, requiring residence in VA. Initial six months involve on-campus training; thereafter, the role is remote, with occasional on-site requirements.
- Licensure/Certification Requirements for Hire:
- Generalist Certification required
- Certification as MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), or CLS (NCA) or equivalent, or ASCP Specialty/Categorical certification
- New graduates must obtain certification within 12 months of hire
- Licensure/Certification Requirements for continued employment:
- Generalist Certification required
- Certified MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), CLS (NCA), or equivalent, or ASCP Specialty/Categorical certification
- Certification strongly encouraged if hired before January 2007
Experience:
- Required: Entry-level Generalist Medical Laboratory Scientist Graduate Experience
- Preferred: Previous experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Lab Scientist, or Medical Lab Scientist
Education/Training:
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (BSCLS) from an accredited program
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Clinical Lab Science (MSCLS) from an accredited program
Required Actions:
- In-depth knowledge of procedures, evaluation, and reporting of results as per standard operating procedures
- Notification of events related to patient safety or results to ordering physicians
- Customer service-oriented communication
- Teaching responsibilities for new employees/students in demonstrated competency areas
- Completion of required continuing education hours
Other Position Requirements:
- Coverage during PTO, CIS downtimes, inclement weather, or disaster staffing needs
- Rotating weekends/holiday scheduling/evening rotation as required
- Serving all age-specific groups
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Physical lifting (< 20 lbs.)
- Prolonged standing/sitting, repetitive motions, exposure to biohazards
