The City of Richmond is looking for a passionate, proactive, and dedicated individual to join as a full-time Librarian, Senior (Young Adults) at the Richmond Public Library. Duties & Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct programs for youth aged 13-18.
- Organize and lead the Young Adult Virginia Author (YAVA) Program.
- Assist young adults in utilizing computer and electronic resources for research and reference.
- Provide readers' advisory and reference assistance to library users.
- Promote library services within the community.
- Compile statistical reports and enter programs into website software.
- Participate in team decision-making, staff development, and training.
Essential Details:
- This role requires some evening and weekend scheduling on a rotating basis onsite.
- Position may require work during public emergencies or hazardous conditions.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
- Four (4) years of public library experience with at least one year in a supervisory role.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Experience in desktops, laptops, tablets, eBooks, smartphones, and video equipment.
- Ability to develop system-wide programs and train staff in new subject matters.
Key Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of supervisory practices, cataloging, and electronic databases.
- Strong program development, management, and marketing abilities.
- Proficiency in library automated systems and software applications.
- Excellent communication, public speaking, and decision-making skills.
Special Requirements:
- Eligibility for Librarian's Professional Certification through the Commonwealth of Virginia within one year.
