The City of Richmond is seeking dynamic, enthusiastic, and hardworking individuals to join the Richmond Public Library as Librarians, Youth Services. Responsibilities:
- Organize, plan, and facilitate library programs and activities.
- Promote and market programs and activities effectively.
- Prepare reports, reviews, and various documents.
- Perform circulation duties and assist patrons with technology.
- Conduct outreach, represent the library at community events, and advocate library services.
- Assist patrons with technology, reference, and readers advisory queries.
- Deliver computer, electronic resource, and Internet training for the public.
- Aid in collection development/maintenance and prepare statistical reports.
- Develop brochures, fliers, and other program-related materials.
- Engage in team decision-making, staff development, and training.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of routine library functions, policies, classification systems (like Dewey Decimal System), and circulation functions.
- Proficiency in children's developmental stages, STEAM activities, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with Integrated Library Systems, electronic databases, and related software applications.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Experience working with youth, marketing programs, and keeping children engaged.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, implement, and facilitate special activities and programs.
- Competency in updating websites and utilizing social media platforms.
- Dedication to staying updated on early literature best practices.
Minimum Training and Experience:
- Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school.
- Two years of experience in public libraries.
- Equivalent training and experience as approved by the department.
Licensing, Certifications, and Special Requirements:
- Eligibility for and obtainment of Librarian’s Professional Certification through the Commonwealth of Virginia within one year.
Preferred Training and Experience:
- Strong customer service skills, enthusiasm, and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in handling various technological devices.
- Experience in developing system-wide programs and training staff in new subjects.
Environmental Hazards & Physical Requirements:
- Working conditions may involve travel, exposure to hazardous conditions, atmospheric conditions, inadequate lighting, intense noise, and environmental hazards.
- Physical requirements include detailed work on multiple tasks, talking, hearing, seeing, and using repetitive motions, occasional stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling.
