The City of Richmond is seeking dynamic, enthusiastic, and hardworking individuals to join its team as a Part-time Library Associate for the Richmond Public Library. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, an excellent communicator and listener, a team player, a problem solver, and possess exceptional customer service skills.


Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate programs and services for users and staff of the City Library.
  • Plan, develop, and implement special library activities and programs.
  • Execute the City Library's strategic plan, providing programs for all age groups and special needs groups.
  • Facilitate, market, and promote special programs.
  • Prepare and update library web content.
  • Prepare reports and assist patrons with locating materials.
  • Support circulation functions and assist with special projects or other library programs.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting patrons with emerging technologies and access to library resources.
  • Work some evening and weekend (Saturday and Sunday) shifts on a rotating basis.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Literature, Education, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school preferred.
  • Two years of public library experience.
  • Strong knowledge of routine library functions, policies, practices, and classification systems.
  • Experience using Integrated Library Systems, electronic databases, and related software applications.
  • Excellent English composition, spelling, and grammar skills.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with patrons and promoting library services.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, develop, implement, and facilitate special events, activities, and programs.
  • Proficiency in updating library website and social media communications.
  • Ability to work with diverse audiences and speak publicly.
