The City of Richmond Community Services, Library - Division of Customer Service, is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Library Technician at the Broad Rock Branch Library. The Library Technician will be responsible for handling routine and advanced clerical and other support services for the City Library. This position will require on-site work on weekdays, evenings, and weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) on a rotating basis.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provides customer service
- Performs circulation desk duties
- Circulates library materials to customers
- Assists patrons in finding materials or other pertinent information, online, in person, or over the phone
- Processes returned materials, issues, updates, and replaces library cards and other library resource accounts
- Collects money for fees
- Opens and closes cash registers
- Counts funds for reports
- Answers phones, emails, SMS, sorts mails, and distributes them accordingly
- Assists patrons with requests such as computer printing, copying, faxing, and using computer workstations
- Maintains the Integrated Library System computer database
- Shelves books and other materials in the proper order
- Sorts and organizes library materials
- Anticipates patrons' needs
- Fields patrons' inquiries
- Recommends materials to patrons
- May participate in library-wide committees or projects
- Creates displays, flyers, and other promotional materials
- Participates in staff development and training
- May be required to operate a library vehicle to transport books or supplies to another facility
Essential Personnel: This position is considered essential personnel, which means the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions, or inclement weather.
Qualifications, Special Certifications, and Licenses:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of routine and advanced clerical and support services
- Basic math skills and familiarity with the Dewey Decimal System
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Familiarity with standard office equipment
- Knowledge of cash register procedures
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to assist patrons in various ways, including finding materials, collecting fees, and processing payments
- Ability to train volunteers, interns, AARP members, and work-study students
- Ability to promote and coordinate library events and programs
- Ability to create displays, flyers, and other promotional materials
Minimum Training and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- One year of public library-related support experience
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
Licensing, Certifications, and/or Other Special Requirements:
- Spanish speaking skills preferred, but not required
