The City of Richmond Community Services, Library - Division of Customer Service is in search of a qualified Library Technician for the Ginter Park Branch Library. This role involves managing routine and advanced clerical and support services for the City Library. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, be a team player, problem solver, and most importantly, exhibit exceptional customer service. Key Responsibilities:
- Providing exceptional customer service.
- Performing circulation desk duties.
- Assisting patrons in finding materials or information online, in-person, or over the phone.
- Processing returned materials, issuing, updating, and replacing library cards and other resource accounts.
- Handling monetary transactions for fees and maintaining cash registers.
- Answering phones, emails, SMS, sorting and distributing mail.
- Assisting patrons with various requests such as computer services and operating computer labs.
- Maintaining the Integrated Library System computer database for patrons and materials.
- Organizing and shelving library materials in order.
- Anticipating patrons’ needs and fielding inquiries.
- Participating in library-wide committees or projects.
- Creating displays, flyers, and other promotional materials.
- Engaging in staff development and training.
- Operating library vehicles for book or supply transportation if required.
Essential Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of routine and advanced clerical and support services to assist patrons effectively.
- Proficiency in basic math and the Dewey Decimal System.
- Comfort with Microsoft Office Suites and standard office equipment.
- Familiarity with cash register procedures.
- Strong customer service, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to train volunteers, interns, and students.
- Proficiency in coordinating library events and creating promotional materials.
Minimum Training and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One year of related public library support experience.
- Equivalent combinations of training and experience approved by the department may be considered.
Licensing, Certifications, and/or Other Special Requirements:
- Spanish speaking skills preferred, but not required.
