The City of Richmond Public Library seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic, and hardworking individual to join its team as a Library Technician, Senior. The selected candidate will be self-motivated, a self-starter, an excellent communicator and listener, a team player, a problem solver, and, most importantly, someone who excels in customer service. This role is responsible for leading circulation services for the Richmond Public Library and requires availability for days, evenings, and weekends (Saturday and Sunday) on a rotating basis.

- User Records Management: Creates, updates, and maintains library user records.
- Library Cards Issuance: Issues library cards and manages library materials’ charges/discharges.
- Circulation Workflow: Plans, directs, and manages daily circulation functions.
- Customer Interaction: Provides information to library users by phone or in person.
- Reporting: Prepares financial and statistical reports for the assigned library.
- Materials Organization: Directs the return of materials to the proper order on the shelves.
- Staff Training: Assists in training circulation staff and volunteers as directed by the branch manager.
- Financial Management: Accounts for and prepares weekly deposits of all monies received by the branch.
- Administrative Support: Serves as administrative support lead for daily operations of an assigned library or unit.
- Office Coordination: Oversees office work, ensures work completion, and participates in staff development and training.
- Fee Collection: Collects overdue fines and other fees from customers.
- Data Management: Performs data entry, maintains, and updates library materials in the computer catalog.
- Staffing Assistance: Assists with staffing needs at other locations.
- Other Duties: Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Library Systems: Understanding of library cataloging and classification systems, electronic databases, and related software.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment.
- Customer Service: Excellent customer service, interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills.
- Financial Management: Basic math and accounting skills, with knowledge of cash register procedures.
- Professionalism: Exhibits professionalism, courtesy, and the ability to maintain accurate records and attention to detail.
Minimum Training and Experience:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience: Three (3) years of public library-related support experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications.
