The City of Richmond is searching for an energetic, self-motivated individual to join as a Library/Community Services Manager. This role requires a dynamic professional who excels in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and delivering outstanding library customer service. The ideal candidate will join a dedicated team committed to the mission of Informing, Enriching, and Empowering the community.


Duties and Responsibilities:


Responsibilities:

  • Branch Management: Oversee daily operations and public service at the Belmont Branch Library.
  • Resource Management: Select and acquire materials according to the Collection Management Policy.
  • Budget Oversight: Monitor and manage the collection management budget to meet the library's material needs.
  • Personnel Management: Coordinate duties, maintain resources, and supervise staff.

Additional Duties:

  • Consult with librarians and department heads to meet public needs.
  • Ensure safety, security, and completion of facilities and operations.
  • Remain updated on trends in publishing and library materials.
  • Provide public speaking, marketing, and program promotion.

Qualifications:


Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Four (4) years of public library experience, including one year of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in desktops, laptops, tablets, eBooks, smartphones, and video equipment.
  • Exceptional customer service, enthusiasm, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience developing system-wide programs and staff training.

Key Skills:

  • Proficiency in library automated systems and acquisitions databases.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to supervise and manage staff and volunteers effectively.
  • Strong decision-making, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.

Special Requirements:

  • Eligibility for Librarian’s Professional Certification through the Commonwealth of Virginia within one year.
