The City of Richmond is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic individual to join its team as a Library/Community Services Manager. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, an excellent communicator, a team player, a problem solver, and above all, dedicated to providing excellent library customer service. This role involves coordinating all aspects of system-wide collection development, ensuring prompt, accurate services to both external and internal customers, and aligning with the mission: Inform, Enrich, Empower.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the general direction of the Library Director, the responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coordinating system-wide collection development
- Supervising and overseeing Collection Development
- Formulating collection guidelines and overseeing material selection
- Managing, monitoring, and advising on the total materials budget
- Providing system-wide leadership regarding collection issues
- Working a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends in support of public service hours
Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of current public library collection management practices
- Familiarity with trends in publishing, acquisitions procedures, and budgetary practices
- Excellent communication, writing, and public speaking skills
- Ability to supervise and manage staff and volunteers
- Broad understanding of library science, including legal and youth-focused expertise
- Proficiency in using library automated equipment and systems
- Strong customer service, interpersonal, and decision-making skills
Minimum Training and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution
- Four (4) years of public library experience
- One year of supervisory experience
- Equivalent combinations of training and experience approved by the department may be considered
Certifications and Requirements:
- Must be eligible and able to obtain Librarian’s Professional Certification through the Commonwealth of Virginia within one year
Preferred Training and Experience:
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Experience with various technological devices and system-wide program development
- Ability to train staff in new subject matters
