Position Overview:


The City of Richmond's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities is seeking a qualified Maintenance & Operations Crew Chief to oversee labor crews responsible for maintaining and enhancing built features within the Southern/Northern Divisions. This role involves directing crews in maintaining ball fields, shelters, community centers, landscapes, and park grounds. Additionally, supporting projects within Trails and Trades units and the Workforce Development Program is expected.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead Direction: Overseeing work crews, establishing schedules, assigning tasks, and reviewing work products.

  • Training and Evaluation: Training team members, assisting with complex tasks, making performance evaluation recommendations.

  • Data Management: Gathering maintenance data, maintaining databases, updating records, and preparing reports.

  • Community Engagement: Collaborating with volunteer groups, community partners, and Friends of Groups for maintenance and improvement projects.

Qualifications:


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of local codes, safety regulations, planning, and heavy equipment operation.
  • Effective communication, people management, training, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to self-manage, problem-solve, organize, and communicate with a diverse population.

Minimum Training and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience; an equivalent combination of training and experience may suffice.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CDL License
  • Virginia Pesticide Applicators License
  • NRPA Playground Safety Inspector License

Licensing and Requirements:

  • Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire.
