This position is responsible for managing chapter-wide branding, marketing, communications, and public relations. Responsibilities include staff leadership, collaboration and raising the profile and broadening awareness of Make-A-Wish® Greater Virginia.


Create and execute strategy for the Foundation’s marketing and external communications to advance the chapter’s position with relevant constituents, broaden overall awareness of the Foundation’s mission, and grow the chapter. This includes creating and maintaining internet and extranet sites, newsletters, collateral material, supporter activities, and stakeholder groups. Produces wish stories, implements direct marketing appeals, and maintains local public relations on behalf of the foundation.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a budget for marketing and communications
  • Develop marketing strategies to include metrics, benchmarks, and evaluation.
  • Oversee branding implementation and consistency, including training staff and volunteers
  • Develop and maintain the chapter’s public relations strategy, both locally and nationally
  • Manage Wishes in Flight Campaign for chapter airline miles procurement
  • Manage all communications plans and strategy to include crisis, media, and fundraising/ development
  • Produce and direct compelling wish stories to garner public support including video and photography
  • Serve as foundation spokesperson, as needed
  • Develop and manage special event publicity to include fundraising campaigns, telethons, radiothons, and cause marketing
  • Create and manage chapter collateral (print, web, social)
  • Establish and support a Marketing/ PR Board Committee
  • Train, manage and deploy the speaker’s bureau to fulfill the Foundation’s presentation opportunities
  • Additional duties as requested
  • Some travel and weekend/ evenings as needed

Required Qualifications
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to successfully work in a collaborative, team-oriented organization
  • Strong initiative and self-starter
  • Ability to manage several projects at once while meeting deadlines
  • Excellent time management, organizational and independent judgment skills.
  • Proven problem solver
  • 3-5 years of work in the field of public relations or non-profit marketing
  • BS/ BA in journalism, public relations, marketing, or communications preferred
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Suite, graphic design programs including Canva and InDesign, experience in web content management, specifically Drupal, social media management
