The City of Richmond’s Department of Economic Development is currently seeking a Marketing Manager who will be responsible for strategic and high-profile marketing and communications initiatives to promote Richmond, VA as a top business location, generate business attraction, expansion, retention, and commercial development leads, and execute marketing-related components of Richmond’s Strategic Plan for Equitable Economic Development (SPEED). This position also supports the marketing activities of the Economic Development Authority of the City of Richmond.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Planning and implementing comprehensive, multi-channel external marketing campaigns to generate business investment leads and engage the business community and other economic development stakeholders.
- Establishing and maintaining Richmond Economic Development identity and brand; managing Richmond Economic Development web presence and ensuring that Richmond leverages best-in-class technology and tactics to generate traffic and leads from digital marketing efforts. Activities include managing vendors, developing new features and content, providing timely updates of content, and ensuring the proper connection between web and social channels.
- Managing the Department of Economic Development's social media content, campaigns, and performance.
- Developing, designing, and managing electronic and print collateral (brochures, flyers, newsletters).
- Planning and executing marketing events for business prospects, Richmond businesses, and economic development stakeholders.
- Developing measures and maintaining data on key performance indicators on digital, print, and event marketing efforts, adjusting tactics to optimize for results, and developing materials to communicate results.
- Managing external marketing, public relations, and graphic design vendors, and the related contracts and projects.
- Overseeing the creation of new photo and video assets and managing existing assets to ensure visual presence is vibrant, current, and authentically Richmond.
- Creating slide decks for prospect meetings, City leadership, and community and business groups.
- Attending events and creating real-time digital/social content to promote economic development activities.
- Building and maintaining newsletter/email lists to support business recruitment and retention efforts.
- Negotiating and implementing promotions and sponsorships to support business attraction and retention programs.
- Assisting with business investment proposal creation, presentation materials, and marketing trip preparation.
- Researching, preparing, writing, editing, and distributing press/news releases, talking points, FAQs, blogs, and articles that promote Richmond's economic development efforts, industry sectors, the business community, redevelopment projects, and other special projects.
- Serving as the main point of contact with the Office of Strategic Communications and the Mayor's Press Secretary's Office to ensure interdepartmental coordination and collaboration.
- Providing support to the Director of Economic Development.
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Knowledge of marketing concepts, strategies, and tactics to generate leads.
- Knowledge of economic development.
- Knowledge of graphic design from conception to publication phases.
- Computer proficiency with marketing and design-related software including Adobe Creative Suite, ArcGIS Online and StoryMaps, Canva, Lightroom, WordPress, Hootsuite, Salesforce, Exact Target/Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, HubSpot or other similar graphic and design programs, photo editing, email marketing, and digital management software.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree in marketing, public relations, communications, business, economic development, or directly related field.
- Three years of marketing experience.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.
- Valid Driver's License is required.
PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- At least three (3) years of Marketing experience in an economic development, real estate, business improvement district, tourism, or other place-based marketing environment.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
