Nurse Program Coordinator


The Nurse Program Coordinator coordinates activities and functions of a designated program to ensure that goals and objectives specified to the program are accomplished in accordance with established priorities, time limitations, or other specifications. This job is intended for positions with incumbents that have responsibility for a particular program, providing specific services or carrying out specific activities as a component program within a department.


Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements:

  • For Hire: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state.
  • Continued Employment: Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP certification or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical nursing experience with at least one (1) year in a progressive leadership or supervisory role.

Experience Preferred:

  • Previous experience in staff education and professional development (orientation, preceptorship, in-service education, etc.).
  • Previous experience in an academic healthcare setting.
  • Experience with a similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to the area of practice.

Education/Training:

  • Required: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Preferred: Completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing, Certification in a specialty area.

Independent Actions Required:

  • Practices within the boundaries of the regulations governing the practice of nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Practice is guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established nursing practice standards and follows the VCUHS policies and procedures.
  • Organizes and plans work with input from the patient/family or other stakeholders with specific defined outcomes and demonstrates the use of sound clinical judgment and resources.

Supervisory Responsibilities (if applicable):

  • May supervise assigned subordinates.

Additional Position Requirements:

  • Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work, may be adjusted as necessary to meet program requirements and/or needs.

Physical Requirements (includes use of assistance devices as appropriate):

  • Physical: Lifting less than 20 lbs.
  • Activities: Prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, other).
  • Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speak clearly, write legibly, reading, logical thinking.
  • Emotional: Fast-paced environment, steady pace, able to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment, able to adapt to frequent change.
