The Literacy Lab Outreach Coordinator VISTA member in Virginia will help to increase organizational and agency impact in the communities The Literacy Lab serves, building a stronger safety net for the community. The VISTA member will leverage The Literacy Lab’s network, AmeriCorps alumni, and school partner relationships. As a result of the VISTA Member’s service, the organization will have identified and established new partnerships and leveraged our network to expand the organization’s impact.
Job Description
The VISTA member will engage a variety of audiences in Virginia including community organizations, alumni, and other stakeholders through print, digital, and in-person communications.
The member's first objective will be to: Establish relationships and partnership opportunities with community organizations and other entities within The Literacy Lab’s service areas in Virginia (Greater Richmond, Hampton Roads, and/or Danville).
Activities
- Identifying local organizations that work in proximity to The Literacy Lab
- Institutionalize organizational knowledge of past and current partnerships
- Meeting with organizations to explore partnership opportunities
- Plan, promote, and execute events in partnership with local organizations, community members and partners, schools, staff, AmeriCorps members, and alumni
- Engage The Literacy Lab community in volunteering and support of local organizations, community partners, and school partners
- Identify and engage the Literacy Lab alumni community in ongoing service within Literacy Lab service areas alongside Literacy Lab partners.
- Identify and catalog information from previous program participants to create an updated regional Literacy Lab alumni directory
- Identify how local Literacy Lab alumni are interested in contributing to the local community and types of events they would prefer to support
- Support sustainability planning to keep the impact and partnerships going after the service year concludes.
- Collaborate with The Literacy Lab’s regional and central teams to establish a strategy for community partnerships, outreach and events
This position is based in one of The Literacy Lab’s Greater Richmond, Hampton Roads, or Danville, VA regional offices. The Literacy Lab has a flexible work environment. Some projects may offer the opportunity to work virtually while others may require travel to various locations across the service area.
- Must be 18 years of age or older by the start date
- Hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens and persons residing in a state that have the following legal residency classifications: refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status, or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status
- Must pass mandatory pre-service background checks
- Able to work independently and in teams
- Speak, read, and write American English
