The City of Richmond, Office of the City Attorney, is seeking to fill the position of Paralegal for its Operations and Development Division. The purpose of this position is to assist attorneys in the Operations and Development Division with transactional matters primarily involving real estate, and provide additional support for land use, economic development, and other transactional matters. The successful candidate will have the ability to manage numerous assignments simultaneously and work independently in support of multiple attorneys. Experience in real estate law is desired.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Investigation
- Research
- Legal documentation preparation
- Coordinating and scheduling legal actions
- Compiling and organizing documents and exhibits
- Drafting routine and specialized documents
- Maintaining departmental filing systems
Qualifications, Special Certifications, and Licenses
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge (some combination of the following):
- Experience with public utilities law, real estate law, environmental law, regulatory law, or municipal law
- Experience with transactional work, such as contracts and real estate
Skills (some combination of the following):
- Strong ability to conduct legal research
- Strong ability to communicate with various internal and external departments
- Keen ability to pay attention to details and remain organized
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Considerable knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite
Minimum Training and Experience:
- Paralegal certificate, Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or other discipline; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience
Licensing, Certifications, and/or Other Special Requirements:
- Compliance with additional requirements that may be established by the City of Richmond
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
