Provides support services for clinical or anatomical laboratories by resolving problems with orders and/or specimens and responding to telephone inquiries for test results and specimen collection criteria. Conducts various laboratory support functions, including preparing coolers for blood delivery, receiving blood product inventory, scanning digital slides, filing slides and tissue blocks, and performing daily, weekly, and monthly equipment maintenance.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares coolers for blood delivery and receives blood product inventory.
  2. Scans digital slides, files slides and tissue blocks, and performs equipment maintenance.
  3. Receives and delivers specimens and reports.
  4. Compiles appropriate case data, ensuring correct specimen designation for accurate testing.
  5. Performs CLIA Waived Lab Testing (where applicable).
  6. Registers and accessions all patient material as required for the Department.
  7. Assists with ordering and inventory processes/systems, employee timekeeping, pay reference lab invoices, data entry, and glassware maintenance.
  8. Maintains workload recording, including quality control, as required for the area/department.

Qualifications:

  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: N/A
  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Continued Employment: N/A
  • Experience Required:
    • Previous experience in a clinical laboratory, reference laboratory, or college-level laboratory coursework.
    • Previous experience using a personal computer and entering data.
  • Experience Preferred: Minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience using basic laboratory principles and procedures.
  • Education/Training Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Education/Training Preferred: One year of post-high school education in a Health Science field.

  • Complete required continuing education.
  • Customer service-oriented communications.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting less than 20 lbs.
  • Prolonged standing and sitting.
  • Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).
  • Repetitive motion (typing, pipetting, plating).
  • Exposure to biohazards and potentially infectious body fluids.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals and reagents.
