The Patient Access Representative plays a vital role in providing quality customer service to patients of all ages, their families, visitors, medical staff, clinicians, and co-workers. This role ensures courteous, prompt, and respectful treatment for everyone. Responsibilities include establishing and maintaining an environmental control plan, coordinating materials management for the department, monitoring clinic activities, and supervising clerical tasks. The representative handles all business functions in an assigned area, encompassing reception, scheduling, and registering patients for appointments or procedures. This includes securing patient information, ensuring registration data accuracy, validating insurance eligibility, entering data into systems, collecting co-pays (if applicable), and assisting with financial counseling and clearance when necessary.


Requirements:

  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration for Hire: Not Applicable.
  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration for Continued Employment: Not Applicable.
  • Experience Required:
    • Previous experience with computers, Microsoft Office software, and internet navigation.
    • Keyboarding experience with a typing speed of 40 words per minute.
  • Experience Preferred:
    • Work experience with medical insurance, HMO, managed care, electronic medical billing/order entry/registration systems, and appointment scheduling.
    • Previous work experience in a healthcare setting and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Education/Training Required: High school graduate or GED.
  • Education/Training Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a closely related field from an accredited program.
  • Independent Actions Required: Capable of performing daily activities with minimal supervision, addressing issues involving policy violations promptly, and notifying supervisors of relevant concerns.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Not Applicable.
  • Additional Position Requirements: Depending on the assignment, may require work during off-shifts, weekends, and holidays. Incumbents may be considered essential based on departmental needs.
