Responsibilities:
- Obtain blood samples through venipuncture and capillary puncture from outpatients across all age groups as requested by the physician.
- Ensure proper collection of all types of samples as requested by physicians.
- Prepare specimens for analysis by processing orders via HIS/LIS computers, verifying specimen acceptability, and performing established pre-analytical procedures in accordance with laboratory policy, ensuring accuracy, safety, and timeliness.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
- Certification as a Phlebotomist from ASCP or other recognized certification agency preferred.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driver's record if required to drive between sites.

Experience:
- Required: N/A
- Preferred: Minimum of 2 years of experience in specimen collection techniques (venipuncture, capillary collection, urine collection). One year of experience in laboratory clerical and computer entry functions.
Education/Training:
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Completion of a phlebotomy, nursing assistant, or medical assistant training program.
Independent Actions Required:
- Collection of blood samples from patients.
- Ability to contact Client Services or other areas as needed if questions arise prior to the collection of samples.
- Customer service-oriented communications.
- Direct the operation of the assigned area according to policy and procedures.
- Aid in the decision when a trainee has acquired sufficient phlebotomy skills to work without close supervision.
Supervisory Responsibilities (if applicable):
- Assist with special projects assignments.
Additional Position Requirements:
- May require weekend and/or holiday rotation on all shifts as patient care needs in the hospital dictate.
