Duties include but are not limited to
- Receiving, logging, labeling and storing evidence and property
- Locating and releasing/disposing of property and evidence as indicated to Officers for court, to owners, to surplus, or to refuse
- Collecting, logging, and maintaining all firearms, drugs, and currency stored as evidence in accordance with City Code Processing related reports
- Receiving, inventorying, and re-stocking supplies and other departmental commodities
- Preparing various email correspondence and related mail-outs
This position requires overtime and at times working some holidays and weekends. Successful completion of an interview, thorough background investigation, to include a polygraph exam and drug/alcohol screening, is required. Please note that the Police Department background process may take up to 60-90 days. An applicant disqualified from the Police background process may reapply a year after disqualification.
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
- Considerable knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Outlook, Word); electronic databases and related software applications such as Evidence TraQ, Reports Management System (RMS), etc.
- Demonstrated skills assisting law enforcement agencies regarding property and evidence; communicating with various internal and external departments; dealing with the public, including in a front counter setting; following Officers' instructions; restocking supplies; preparing reports or other written documentation; operating a telephone proficiently; typing proficiently.
- Demonstrated abilities servicing customers; flexibly bending, climbing and lifting and working in a warehouse environment; following standard procedures and established practice to resolve problems; exhibiting excellent ethics and moral standards; possessing good work habits; handling firearms and narcotics safely; standing and moving around for long periods of time.
Minimum Training and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED Up to one year of related experience
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
- Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record required VCIN Operator's Certification
