Manage controls monitoring and testing for the Retail Community Bank including monitoring or testing of key controls identified in Risk Control Self Assessments (RCSA) and monitoring of key indicators relative to other risk management tools. Accountable for ensuring Truist’s processes adhere to applicable federal and state regulations by executing a strong regulatory compliance monitoring program to mitigate regulatory compliance risk and providing guidance for compliance and related operational risk areas focusing on Risk and Controls for assigned business unit(s). Ensure detailed but concise reporting on monitoring and testing with attention to Retail Community Bank impact, accuracy, timeliness and issues escalation.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Manage team responsible for the Retail Community Bank division controls monitoring and testing program including methodologies, processes and procedures, report writing, conventions for consistently vetting and documenting findings and working papers.

  2. Build a working knowledge of the Retail Community Bank’s strategic plan, key objectives, risk appetite statement, and RSCA process to understand the risks identified and controls applied to mitigate them in order to develop monitoring activities that effectively monitor key indicators or test controls. Assist in the detection of emerging and/or under recognized risks.

  3. Analyze monitoring results to determine root causes and develop corrective action plans. Evaluate monitoring results and trends for escalation, determination and documentation of root causes, collaborate with business unit representatives to determine appropriate corrective action plan. May own or coordinate mitigation or remediation activities where appropriate.

  4. Accountable for adherence to risk management policies, procedures, processes, and laws and regulations (if applicable) for Retail Community Bank. Contribute to first and second line of defense key initiatives. Serve as the subject matter expert to assigned business unit(s) for operational or regulatory compliance control implementation, risk mitigation and effective design of controls.

  5. Develop and maintain processes and procedures to ensure the accuracy of the reports produced by the Retail Community Bank Monitoring and Control Testing Team.

  6. Conduct or participate in forums where risk management activities, trends, and events pertaining to assigned business unit(s) are discussed with business unit representatives and/or Enterprise Compliance and others as appropriate.

  7. Analyze testing results across the team, streamline management reporting for key stakeholders and senior leadership, focusing on themes, trends, and value add recommendations.

  8. Advocate Truist’s risk culture throughout the Retail Community Bank. Support BURM’s promotion of an internal control culture that encourages self- identification and management of risks. Lead, establish, and maintain sound risk management practices.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics or equivalent education and related training

  2. 7+ years of industry experience with emphasis on risk management, audit, operations, process engineering or line of business specialty

  3. Minimum 3 years leadership experience

  4. Broad risk knowledge with an emphasis on: Compliance and/or related Operational Risks and requirements of laws and regulations

  5. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and interact with all levels of management

  6. Strong knowledge and the ability to own projects and drive process change, independent thinking with strong analytical and decision making skills

  7. Excellent time management and organizational skills

  8. Ability to operate in an independent manner without close supervision

  9. Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. 10+ years of financial industry experience; especially retail banking MBA or advanced degree

  2. Relevant professional certification (e.g. CRMC, CIA, CPA, Process Master, Six Sigma, etc)

  3. Operational and regulatory knowledge of financial institutions (banks or mortgage companies preferred)

  4. Graduate Banking School or other Leadership Programs
