The City of Richmond's Office of the City Assessor is seeking skilled candidates for multiple Real Estate Appraiser Associate positions. These individuals will be responsible for collecting and verifying data related to residential properties to ensure fair and equitable tax assessments.


Work Schedule: Hybrid work schedules, including remote work, may be available after review and approval post-hire.


Note: This position is unclassified, and the incumbent serves at the will of the Appointing Authority.


Responsibilities:

  • Listing and appraising real property, analyzing sales data
  • Preparing valuation schedules for neighborhoods
  • Investigating real property sales and building characteristics for valuation purposes
  • Conducting field inspections and appraisals, documenting building characteristics
  • Generating reports with narrative data and sketches
  • Researching assessment information for building permits, renovations, and demolitions
  • Gathering, editing, and sorting property sales data
  • Measuring and calculating building size, reviewing assessments for office reviews and appeals

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in real estate or related field
  • One year of professional real estate appraisal experience
  • Professional education equivalent to IAAO Course 101, 151, and 300 (Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal, Standards of Professional Practice and Ethics, Fundamentals of Mass Appraisals)
  • Valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license within 30 days of hire

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with appraisal instruments, equipment, and tools
  • Ability to operate a City vehicle and knowledge of Virginia road rules
  • Understanding of CAMA Software (Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal)
  • Real estate and appraisal knowledge
  • Strong skills in utilizing software and diverse information sources for appraisal determinations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask
