This position will report to a Recreation Services Supervisor who oversees four or more recreation centers. This position supervises the daily operations of a recreation facility, including front desk operations, staff management, and logistics for the recreational, social, and special event programs provided by each center.


Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing and training facility staff on building operations, program facilitation, customer service, and other areas as needed.
  • Supervising staff, including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating staff schedules and training, tracking attendance, and executing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.
  • Managing the facility, including coordinating program scheduling, overseeing general upkeep and cleanliness, and developing/updating facility policies and procedures.
  • Leading and monitoring programs, activities, and community events.
  • Developing positive working relationships with community partners.
  • Overseeing registration and payments for programs, processing receipts and revenues, sending invoices to customers, maintaining financial data, and preparing reports.
  • Overseeing facility supplies and inventory and making purchases as needed.
  • Updating information in the online recreation registration site and assisting with developing quarterly recreation brochures.
  • Monitoring operations in the facility to ensure safety and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Special Certifications, and Licenses:


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Requires knowledge of: Planning, design, maintenance and use of parks and recreation facilities; Current techniques in the assessment of recreational program and facility needs; Applicable state and federal regulations; Fundraising, sponsorships, partnerships, public relations and marketing; General mathematical knowledge; General office equipment (such as computers, copiers, printers, calculators), athletic equipment, credit card/electronic check machine equipment, and security systems; General office software such as Microsoft Office Suite, RecTrac 10.3, and Oracle Rapids; Controls and safety.
  • Skills needed for: Leading, motivating, and training employees; Conducting performance reviews; Coordinating events and trainings; Inspecting and analyzing facility operations; Preparing budgets; Customer service for both internal and external customers; Oral and written communication; Data entry.
  • Incombent must have the ability to: Establish and implement policies, procedures, and practices; Conduct open and public forums; Exhibit sound judgment; Recognize problems and identify appropriate solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires high school diploma or GED
  • Three years of recreation program experience
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in parks and recreation or business administration
  • Knowledge of general and special funds
  • Intermediate to advanced level mathematics and statistics as applicable to appraisal measures and assessment ratio studies
  • Thorough knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with community centers and outside agencies
