Position Overview:
The Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities seeks an energetic Recreation Services Program Specialist to join the Recreation Division. Reporting to the Recreation Services Manager, this role involves assisting the Recreation Services Supervisor in managing day-to-day operations of after-school programs, out-of-school time programming, and community center facilities. Responsibilities include supervision, administrative tasks, participant support, program planning, community engagement, and staff training.
Responsibilities Include:
Program Development: Plan, implement, and supervise recreational programming and events. Collaborate with community groups and associations to enhance center offerings. Recruit volunteers and liaise with community groups.
Administrative Support: Coordinate staff training, oversee inter-agency programs, manage schedules, assist in rentals, and handle other assigned duties.
Participant Support: Provide support to participants with disabilities (physical, cognitive, social/emotional) within programs.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, childcare, parks and recreation, or a related field.
- Two years of recreational program experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three to five years of experience as a lead staff or program supervisor/director in children's programs.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of behavior management strategies and their implementation.
- Strong leadership, communication, and computer skills.
- Valid VA driver’s license and CPR/First Aid Certification.
Additional Skills and Abilities:
- Understanding of parks and recreation policies, youth-related risk factors, and early identification criteria.
- Ability to communicate effectively, manage diverse staff, resolve conflicts, and operate various equipment.
- Proficiency in software such as RecTrac, Microsoft Office Suite, and RAPIDS.
