Job Opportunity: The City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities seeks a highly qualified candidate for the Recreation Services Supervisor - Special Event position. The Recreation Services Supervisor - Special Event position will report to the Recreation Services Manager for Special Events. The primary role of the Recreation Supervisor is the responsibility for logistical and administrative operations of City-Wide Events, including but not limited to Dogwood Dell, Annual Festival of Arts, RVA Illuminates, and Jubilation in June. This position requires strong event production knowledge, supervisory skills, and a passion for event management.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Event Venues
- Conduct short- and long-term planning and management for events
- Planning and coordinating various Events Production
- Responsible for contract negotiation with performers
- Recommends, develops, and implements effective marketing plans for generating event revenues
- Develop and recommend the budget, marketing plans, and objectives and manage within those approved plans
- Facility Maintenance and Compliance
- Manage Event Budgets
- Assemble creative and innovative event attractions based on internal capabilities or outsource to qualified vendors
- Manage and Hire Seasonal Event Staff
- Work some weekends and with community groups
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Special Certifications, and Licenses:
- Computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite, RecTrac Financial Software, Rapids, and Adobe InDesign
- Program management, planning, and implementation
- Maintaining accurate and complete records and reports
- Interpreting state laws and regulations as well as city policies
- Training staff members
Minimum Training and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree or related job experience
- 5 years of related work in community theatrical production and management
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
